Celebration Events
The Austin Area Heritage Council’s 2010 MLK Celebration is comprised of five events over a period of nine days. The Scholarship Awards, Oratory Competition, and Day of Service lead up to the Annual Keynote Event on Sunday, January 17th and the March and Festival on Monday, January 18th. We would love for you to join us at as many events as possible! Please note that for the first time since 2003, the Keynote Event is BEFORE the march.
Here is our full schedule:
- Jan 10th MLK Scholarship Program @ A.C.C. Eastview Campus (60 juniors & seniors have been nominated for 12 $1000 scholarships.
- Jan 14th MLK Oratory Competition @ Carver Museum (5 elementary schools participating)
- Jan 16th MLK Day of Service @ Huston-Tillotson University (in partnership with united Way Hands on Central Texas
- Jan 17th MLK Keynote Event at The Long Center (presenting Michael Eric Dyson & The Fisk Jubilee Singers)
- Jan 18th MLK March & Community Festival (9 am MLK Statue@ UT, 10 am State Capital, 11 am @ HTU community festival until 3 pm)
