Today, as we attempt to move forward as people of different cultures and backgrounds in this country, we are still facing the evils of racism, inequality and unjust acts from others. Dr. King gave us the courage and the hope to keep ahead of the storm by giving us power of the mind to overcome fear. As we react to the changes in our society, our youth see what the realities of the world are and for this, they are the next generation to embrace and to carry forward Dr. King’s unfinished work because change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time.
The 2020 Oratory Finalists will compete in a five-minute speech based on the theme, “If Dr. King were alive, what would you discuss with him in creating change in America which would halt the evils of racism, hatred, inequality and, social injustice happening to the people in our country today and how would you do it?” These inspiring young speakers will compete by delivering personally written speeches commemorating Dr. King’s ideals and principals by continuing to encourage his legacy of peace and unity.
